For my fine art section I started by looking at my collected objects and chose to work from a necklace 'Tokimeki Ribbon' from Angelic Pretty.
From this I was told to look at abstract work despite starting with drawings of the necklace in black line to get away from my usual method of working. So from this I looked at the work of Carol Engles (http://carolenglesart.blogspot.co.uk) due to its abstract quality and her use of acrylic which was the medium I chose to do my final piece in. The balance of colour and composition in her work makes it appealing; despite the lack of a subject the work guides the eye around.
'Colors of the Heart' 40" H x 30" W acrylics
'Deep Purple Canyon' 8 x 11 acrylic with pastel on paper
What I enjoy about her work is that there is still recognisable shapes and themes in her work which is what I chose to carry through into mine with the bows and lacy feel. My colour scheme was chosen from the original item, the necklace itself, and I picked a pastel palette ranging from baby pink to lilac. I also decided to explore mixed media to bring in the use of black lines that I worked with in my initial exploration.
I originally wanted to look at the work of Mark Ryden to go with the 'Dolly' look of the Lolita items I bought in for my project. Although I was told that this did not fit the fine art criteria, I decided to include the few pieces I experimented on in my portfolio as I personally felt that they were strong and represented my own work better than the abstract pieces.

Black Marker pen. I was going to paint this piece in acrylics as a final before being advised against the theme as it was said to be too illustrative for fine art.
Experimentations with pencil and pencil crayon, looking at the creepy cute aspects of Mark Rydens work with the lolita clothing style intergrated.
Quick experiments with acrylic and watercolour working to emulate the look of Mark Ryden's work. I feel that this piece was rushed looking despite being just an experiment although I enjoyed working with skin tones, however even though this idea was scrapped for the actual project, it would come in useful in Life Drawing.

Pencil and Acrylic
Black and red ink and stick
Acrylic paint
Black marker and pencil
Black ink
Black acrylic (painting from my Fashion project of the paper skirt I created on a dress form)
Shown above is my final piece for fine art, an abract piece done entirely in acrylic paint on a large scale.
Evaluation:
I did not enjoy fine art much as I feel I was restricted with allowing it to flow with the rest of my portfolio. For other subject areas I worked in my illustrative approach and although I did with this project I was not allowed to carry it through to the final piece. I feel that the look I achieved with the acrylics in the end was rather successful though, and the composition was fairly balanced. I found it hard to use mediums I am not used to and was told to not intergrate black outlines in my final, nor to use biro, fine liner, marker, or to work digitally. Were I to tackle this project again I would not waste time on pieces that weren't supposed to be included in my portfolio and focus on working away from the mediums I am used to immediately, with less black lines in my experimentation and more methods of working with the acrylic paint.
